Ouch! What Happen to Your Hand?

About seven weeks ago, while visiting his Mother in Jackson, Michael and his brother (Kevin) decided to clear some trails in the woods. As many of us have experienced, accidents seem to happen when we least expect it. Michael went to put the machete down in the dirt, hit something solid and his hand slid off the handle. Ouch!! You know that hurt. The result was a deep laceration across three of his fingers on his right hand.

After a quick trip to the Jackson emergency room, Michael was immediately transported to Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Under the care of a hand specialist, Michael underwent 4-hours of surgery to repair four severed tendons in three fingers. The zigzag technique allows therapy to begin a few days after without tearing the stitches. When the surgeon was done, it took 50+ stitches to sew up his hand.

Fast-forward seven weeks, Michael’s stitches are out, his brace is off, and his hand looks great. You can hardly notice any scars. He is still in therapy 3x/week but we are hopeful for a full recovery. After all, hockey practice starts in September
